What is MPS Therapy? The Needle-Free Acupuncture Alternative in Orlando

Acupuncture without needles — the MPS therapy approach

One of the most common questions I hear from new patients is: "I want to try acupuncture, but I'm afraid of needles. Is there anything you can do?"

One option Dr. Purohit may consider is Microcurrent Point Stimulation, or MPS therapy. It uses electrical stimulation at selected points without acupuncture needles. Whether it fits your needs depends on an individual evaluation.

What MPS therapy actually is

MPS uses a handheld device that delivers low-level electrical stimulation at selected points. Sensation and comfort vary, so patients should report pain, skin irritation or other concerns during treatment.

MPS and TENS units use different stimulation settings and are used in different ways. Dr. Purohit explains why he is recommending a particular option and what a patient can realistically expect based on the condition being evaluated.

In practice, MPS and acupuncture use different methods. Claims that MPS activates specific neurotransmitters, reduces inflammation or produces outcomes comparable with acupuncture should not be assumed for every patient. Dr. Purohit explains the reason for recommending it and how response will be monitored.

When MPS therapy may be considered

Dr. Purohit may consider MPS for selected concerns when a needle-free approach fits the patient’s evaluation, comfort and goals:

Scar-related discomfort. Scar tissue after surgery, injury or burns may be associated with sensitivity, restricted movement or discomfort. Dr. Purohit evaluates the scar, symptoms and medical history before deciding whether MPS is an appropriate complementary option.

Nerve pain and sciatica. MPS may be applied at selected points as complementary care for some patients with radiating pain, tingling or related symptoms. It does not remove structural nerve compression, and response varies.

Stress-related symptoms. Some patients prefer a needle-free approach when discussing tension or stress-related concerns. MPS does not replace mental-health treatment, prescribed medication or evaluation of persistent symptoms.

How I use it in practice at Spectrum WellCare

Dr. Purohit may use MPS by itself or alongside acupuncture when the evaluation supports that choice. Combining services does not guarantee a stronger or faster result.

For example, a patient with lower-back pain and discomfort around a healed surgical scar may be evaluated for acupuncture, MPS or both. New, painful, infected or poorly healed scars require appropriate medical evaluation before complementary care.

For patients who prefer to avoid needles, MPS offers a different method of stimulating selected points. It should not be described as identical to an acupuncture treatment or guaranteed to produce the same result.
